The best things here are the central location, right beside the City Plaza, and the ballroom on the top floor. They hold weddings, conventions, birthdays, and other events there, and you can see much of the city from up there. It’s also handy when the night market is across the street on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. The hotel is named after Maria Cristina Falls, near Iligan City, the City of Majestic Waterfalls, though the city sometimes has no water or electricity. It’s only a 2-star hotel, so keep expectations low. It’s extremely old and needs a major overhaul, but it has been here since at least the 1970s and reminds me of growing up in Iligan. Go Hotel in Robinsons is much better by comparison. This one will do if you aren’t picky and don’t expect much.

My room had just been renovated and was fairly well kept, even though the hotel as a whole looks dated and badly needs work. Maria Cristina Hotel is a landmark in Iligan City, named after the famous Maria Cristina Falls. It used to be the area’s top hotel, but the hallways and lobby have fallen behind, and the toilets need renovation too. With more updates and a fresh look, it might once again match the newer hotels nearby.

The elevator can leave you dizzy sometimes, but it beats taking the stairs. The hotel looks like it dates back to the early 1900s, with some modern designs added, and the building seems to have a strong foundation. It feels like a place for people who enjoy vintage buildings. It’s showing its age and seems to be more than 100 years old. The photo is a view from the hotel.

The staff were helpful and accommodating, and the rates are affordable. It’s centrally located and works well for parties or seminars, though the area isn’t very clean. Both the inside and outside look very outdated and could use a full overhaul. Investing in the property would benefit guests and the business, and help it keep up with the modern world and bring in more locals and tourists.

The function hall has a lot of space, and there’s a 7/11 nearby. The hot water in my room didn’t work, and the elevator was a bit scary because it sometimes stopped. You can always take the stairs, though.
