Ziur Inn

A basic place for a solo budget backpacker to spend a night while seeing the city and nearby area. It’s convenient for what you need: a room with air-conditioning, a hard bed, hot shower, towel, Wi-Fi and shared kitchen. No soap, toilet paper, drinking water or breakfast included. It’s 700 for one person, 900 for two. Jeepneys run all over the region, but leave from different spots around the center, so ask locals where they start.

The inn is in a good spot, right across from the public market, with shops, restaurants and banks all within walking distance. You can walk to the sinking bell tower and the provincial capitol area too. The family running the place is very friendly, and the price is low for the heart of Laoag city. My room, Rm 208, had a broken faucet. When I raised it, staff said it was busted and told me to use the bidet instead. But the bidet water was dirty because it was connected to the toilet bowl. They offered a mug for brushing my teeth, which was disappointing. There were no amenities at all, not even tissue paper, so bring what you need. The room was somewhat dirty and had small roaches in the washroom. The TV only gets free broadcast channels, no cable, but the internet was surprisingly fast.

I paid P700 for one person for the night, and it was definitely worth it. The rooms have a water heater, air-conditioning and a private bathroom, and there’s parking too. Finding the inn in the building is a bit tricky since there’s no sign or poster. It’s on the ground floor, so just ask around 😁 👌🏾

The location is next to the market, and there are other places in laoag to stay. Parking is a problem: there are only 2 spaces shared with the building’s tenants, including two fashion shops, and the receptionist told us to park on an extremely busy street. Our sheets were dirty and had holes, there were cockroaches in the room, and the toilet smelled like poop. The floor mat was wet and dirty. Staff put us in a standard room even though we booked a family room, and I overheard another guest with the same problem. The bidet sprayed dirty, smelly water. I don’t think this place deserves even 1 star.
