Fox & The Firefly Cottages

We came for lunch and a stand-up paddle session on the river, and had a fantastic time. The food was amazing, the cocktails were excellent, and the staff were kind and welcoming. Wander, our paddle instructor, was very professional and made the session really enjoyable. It’s a wonderful place in a beautiful location. Highly recommended!

The firefly tour was really cool, and the views and location are good. Still, the place feels like it’s close to being great, but misses the mark. There wasn’t much to do on site, and the food was decent but not cheap. The service was friendly, but extremely slow. There was no coffee in the rooms, only tea, which felt like an insulting way to cut costs. No air conditioning in 2026 seems silly. I also didn’t like the owner’s tone in replies to negative reviews. It didn’t feel like good value to me, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I’d look at other places nearby.

The people were great, and I like the idea of a nature focused place without AC, but at 4k+/night I expected more basics: toiletries, bottled water, a fridge for drinks, a better fan because the cottages get really hot, flushing toilets, decent water pressure, and a basic breakfast included. The peaceful, tranquil stay didn’t quite happen either. You can hear loud music from nearby places at night, and motorcycles going by loudly throughout the day and night since the hotel is beside a road. The concept and staff are good, but I’m left wondering if I paid hotel prices for hostel level amenities.

I wanted to avoid the tourist boats on the Loboc River, so this was a great option. The waiter showed me which dishes were gluten-free. I played it safe and ordered grilled chicken with red rice, and had no reaction. Recommended.
