Century Spire

The fitness center and pool are the only real selling points for me. The room is a nice size and has a huge refrigerator, but there’s no internet at all, so anyone doing internet-heavy work should keep that in mind. I couldn’t even contact Agoda because I had no Wi-Fi. I was told to ask Agoda about both the Wi-Fi information and a late checkout, which makes no sense to me. Why should Agoda, halfway around the world, authorize a late checkout? I asked the front desk and was denied. Then, five minutes after the noon checkout time, the cleaning lady was already knocking at my door. Every room seems to have a cockroach problem. They use roach traps, which are less efficient, instead of spraying under the kitchen cabinets where the roaches live. The outside patio by the Century Spire Lobby is where workers or locals take lunch breaks. None of the people I saw gathering there even live at Century Spire. Cats tend to hang out there when the evenings are cooler, and giving them food and a scratch behind the ears was the only thing that made the place worthwhile. The workers at Century Spire wouldn’t take responsibility for anything about the room or stay. This could have been outstanding value, but it ended up mediocre. I wouldn’t stay again. The Century Spire isn’t a hotel, since there’s no room service. It’s more like long-stay accommodation for people working in Manila or Makati. Any cheap backpacker hostel in Manila offers its guests Wi-Fi, but this so-called high-end establishment doesn’t.

I tried to book online but there were no rooms available. A friend had booked this hotel, and some of my friends who were checking out today were still there. Since checkout is at 12 noon, they wouldn’t let me in while I waited for them. I’d travelled a long way to get there, but the guards and front desk staff wouldn’t even offer me a seat in the lobby while I waited to see what would happen. They were unfriendly and unprofessional. It was frustrating and very inconvenient. If zero stars were an option, I’d give that to the guards and lobby staff.

It’s a modern building with private offices and residences, and the staff are cheerful and helpful, from security and the concierge to the property management office. Having Century Mall right across the street makes daily errands easier.
