GV Hotel Camiguin

The location is convenient, close to poblacion, jollibee, and the airport, and the internet was stable with working air conditioning. But the building is run down, there’s no elevator, and the rooms are small with dirty facilities. Visible stains, hair everywhere, and smelly rooms were too much for us. We only booked here because our previous hostel had no availability. I’d look at BNB places farther from the center.

We left with three nights still booked after a really awful first stay. One bed had completely collapsed, leaving me with a painful back and a sleepless night. When we raised it politely, the receptionist shrugged and made a face. Asked about another room, they rolled their eyes and went out to sweep. The next receptionist was rude and didn’t seem to care when we explained what had happened or asked for a solution. We’d booked GV Hotel because other places on the island were full, and the description and reviews had prepared us for something basic. Still, our room was unclean, with hair on the sheets and stains on the linen, and the bathroom water was filthy. I’d tell anyone considering staying here to steer clear. Don’t let GV Hotel spoil a trip to this lovely island.

The location is handy, near jollibee and transport, and the receptionist was friendly. The room was okay, but not very clean, and the towels and linens weren’t clean either. There’s only one outlet, by the TV about 5-6 feet off the floor, so you’ll need an extension cord to charge things or iron clothes. I found termites on my belongings and checked everything so I wouldn’t bring them home. During a brownout that lasted almost an hour, the generator didn’t come on. I don’t know if it was being maintained. Maybe they were short staffed, since nobody helped with our luggage. We carried it up the stairs to the second floor. Good thing I had a male companion, because my luggage weighed over 17 kilos, plus my backpack.

There’s a little shop inside where you can buy basic food, and the hotel is centrally located, right behind Jollibee Camiguin. The room entry is hi-tech, using a card. Putting the card in turns on the lights and TV, and taking it out when you leave turns them off. They require a deposit, which you get back at checkout when you return the card. A good, comfortable hotel on Camiguin island.
