The Purple Tree Hostel

For eight hours, the women at the front desk couldn't give me any change. I asked for the boss, but they didn't know him. Other backpackers had better facilities. There was no toilet paper or soap in the bathroom.

The room cost 1,500 pesos for one night, a little less than I saw on sites like Agoda. It was spacious, with A/C, a clean bathroom, and a TV, but there wasn't much else. Some lights were missing and wiring was exposed. They let me leave my luggage while I went to the US embassy, which was an easy 10-minute walk away. Staff were helpful, though their service seemed limited to the basics of checking in and out.

The bed was pretty comfortable, and the park nearby makes this a handy spot. You can easily walk to 7-11, restaurants, and Star bucks. There's no parking, so if you rent a scooter to get around, you'll pay 50 PHP / day. Check the sheets when you arrive and ask reception to change them, since they may not have been changed. There's no room key. You have to ask reception whether anyone's in your room, then knock and wait for someone to let you in. That could be awkward if you go out drinking and get back late after everyone else is asleep. No towels or soap are provided either. They do have free water, but bring your own bottle.

My cash went missing from the lockers, and I don't feel this place is secure against theft. Management did nothing about it. It was a bad hostel experience, and I wouldn't recommend staying here. Watch your belongings. 🤬🤬🤬
