Tropicana Suites

The pool was nice, but that was about the only good part of our stay. There were two families booked into two rooms, but when we arrived they told us one room had an electrical fault and squeezed both families into one room. We’d just come off 13 hours of flights and a bus ride from the airport, so waiting there with exhausted children was very inconvenient. They gave us a discount on the night, but hadn’t told us about the problem beforehand. The bathroom was extremely dirty. The first washing machine ruined my clothes, and they offered no compensation. They moved us to a room with a klcc view, which I appreciated, but that apartment had major problems too. The hot water didn’t work, and the TV was broken until it was replaced too late to help. My kids were bored for three days. The second apartment’s washing machine didn’t work either. Maintenance didn’t respond until I insisted on speaking with the high supervisor. They eventually sent one load to a laundromat, but the next day my clothes came back wet and mouldy. I was flying the following day, and the returned laundry weighed over 10kg. I asked for help repeatedly, but nothing was done. I also asked for a refund for a night to make up for all this and got nowhere. I waited a few days before writing this, but no one has contacted me. At checkout, the admin pressured my brother to leave a “five star review” to keep the ratings up. I relied heavily on reviews when booking, and now I’ve seen how they can be pressured into saying the place is “amazing”.

The hotel itself and its staff are really good, but I wouldn’t stay in this area again. I’m 6'1" and 200 lbs, and walking around was miserable, even in the mall. People harassed me constantly from the end of the street and inside the mall, including a pimp and a “massage specialist”. The sidewalks were covered in excrement, and a big brown dog next door nearly attacked me one day. If you have to stay here, the hotel is good, but I’d avoid the area.

We’ve been coming back to this apartelle regularly for four years because each stay has been comfortable and pleasant. Staff in the breakfast area, at the swimming pools, and in housekeeping all help make visits enjoyable. There have been a few moments when someone’s attitude unsettled me, but those didn’t outweigh the service overall. Management seems committed to doing a good job, and I’d gladly recommend the place to friends and colleagues looking for a welcoming, reliable stay.

The bathroom is spacious and has a tub. The sleeping area is separate from another room with a dining setup, sofa, and table for lounging. These apartment-like rooms are big and well equipped, with a kitchenette that has a sink, fridge, E-kettle, convection, microwave, crockery, and cutlery.
