We were in Manila for a tour and stayed one night. It’s also suitable for students looking for an affordable overnight stay or a place to study. The staff were good, except the pool attendant, who was unfriendly and not accommodating. The bathroom felt a bit creepy and flimsy, almost like being in a capsule. Good overall if you just need one affordable night.

We stayed three nights in a four-bed women’s dorm and paid a good price, but it was too basic for me to return. The room was fairly clean, with good air conditioning, and having a fridge and microwave was handy. A kettle would’ve been a nice addition. The bunks creaked, the mattresses were thin, and all you got to sleep with was a sheet. The bathroom was tiny, the water only mildly warm, and the Wi-Fi didn’t work during our stay. The lift was very slow, and it didn’t seem like the rooms were serviced while we were there. For check-in, you need to speak to the door security officer on arrival, and they’ll call staff down.

We booked two rooms, but when we arrived, a guy said their system showed only one for us. That was ridiculous. The rooms were quite dirty, and there was a big crowd waiting in the small building lobby before we could check in at 3pm. Zen Rooms is on the 27th floor and has no lobby of its own. The pool was closed when we got there, which I understand since it was the end of the year, though it would’ve been nice if it were open.

The room had four beds, which worked well for a family, and the price was affordable. There’s a swimming pool too, but when we went at 11:00 am it was closed until 1:00 pm for lunch. Two hours seems too long for a break, I think 30 minutes to an hour would be enough. They should fix that.

The room was spacious and clean, including the bathroom, though the shower curtain was a little dirty. We booked a four-person room with a working fridge and microwave. There was no water heater, so be prepared for a really cold shower unless you’re used to that like I am. The TV had no signal, and we were told not to use hairdryers or heated hair tools because the fire alarm is sensitive to them. There was no complimentary water or dispenser, so you have to buy your own. I went down to reception for towels after they said they’d deliver them but didn’t. They didn’t have a spoon and fork when I asked, which was okay. The staff were nice, and overall I had a good experience.
