PGHI Hotel

The room was pretty okay, but prices vary by season, so booking online is better. In peak season, they may give your room to a walk-in. The cable is nothing special, and there aren’t many outlets, so bring an extension. I’d give it three stars, but the safe parking space adds one, even though the entrance is steep.

The one star is for Abby, the friendly officer-in-charge who responded right away and worked to fix the problems promptly. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, though, even with her help. We picked it because it was a 10-minute walk from the improv festival venue and Agoda had a 50% discount. The walk along E Rodriguez Sr. Ave was super dusty and dirty. My second-floor room was simple and clean, with a fridge, though a few things were missing. That seemed manageable until I returned from dinner to find no water. The front desk said there was a water shortage and offered nothing else, so I went downstairs to complain. The manager said she’d checked the tank and there was water, then had a staff member follow me upstairs to check, as if I was making it up. Once they saw the taps were on but dry, I asked to change rooms. The manager eventually came up and turned a knob under the sink, and the water started flowing. It was clear she knew how to fix it. The first night ended with that. The shower worked very slowly on the second night, but at least there was water. Maybe that was because it was my birthday! On the third night, I returned from a show and drinks well after midnight and again had no water. The knob didn’t help this time. The manager came up and said there was a water shortage, then added that they shut off water after 10pm. I was furious. I wanted to shower, change, and brush my teeth, and told her to find a solution instead of expecting me to go to bed without washing. She said the third floor, where my teammate was staying, had water because the pressure was better upstairs. It felt unfair that we paid the same amount but I was affected by a 10pm cutoff while my friend wasn’t. I asked to move rooms since I still had two nights left and didn’t want to keep going upstairs to shower. She finally moved me to the third floor. The shower there was great, but that room had no fridge. The power point was under the dressing table, so I couldn’t use the kettle on the table. A staff member suggested boiling water on the floor under the desk because there was no extension. I asked for a chair instead. Then I found the toilet flush was broken the next morning. I reported it at 7:30am on the way out, but it still hadn’t been fixed when I came back at 5:30pm. This time Abby answered the front desk call and came up immediately with a housekeeping staff member to try to fix it. She called a plumber when they couldn’t, and kept apologizing. After the plumber finished, Abby even squatted down to clean the wet toilet floor. The housekeeping guy brought towels and tissues but stood watching for a long time before wiping just a couple of strokes. The other woman with Abby didn’t offer to help and stood there the whole time. Thanks to Abby, at least I had a working toilet on my last day.

The food was great, the rooms were clean, and the staff were nice and quick to meet our needs. The service here is among the best.

So far, this is the worst hotel I’ve stayed at. The room was awful, the AC didn’t cool enough, and there was no Wi-Fi, cable, or elevator. The rates were unreasonably expensive. I’ll never return to PGHI HOTEL at E.RODRIGUEZ QUEZON CITY. The facilities and staff need improvement. Good luck.
