The first room was filthy. There was hair on the towels, the bathroom looked like it hadn’t been wiped down, and the bin was still full. We asked to move, but the second room was only a little better.

We canceled our Agoda booking because the bathroom was dirty, the cabinet dusty, and there were cobwebs and insects in the room. Water dripped from the air conditioner, which also didn’t work. We told the staff right away that we wanted to cancel and explained our concerns, but nothing was resolved. We hadn’t even been there for an hour, yet the owner kept more than half the booking price instead of refunding it all. Getting any money back took over a month. It wasn’t our fault the place was dirty, and I have photos to support what I reported. This was a deeply disappointing experience, and I found the owner very inconsiderate.

Our stay at Costa Villa Beach Resort in San Juan La Union was cut short. We’d booked four nights but left after three because of the room problems, and I wouldn’t recommend this property to local or foreign tourists. In Room 3, the toilet was stained and the only electrical socket was loose and dangerous. It sparked during our stay. They moved us to Room 26, where I found a cockroach. These problems really affected our experience. I hope management addresses the cleanliness and maintenance issues. I have photos taken inside the room to back up my account.

The room was comfortable enough, with clean sheets and a decent bed. The bathroom had warm water, which was nice, but water stayed on the floor and never seemed to drain away, so it was always wet. Be sure to lock your room securely. Reception keeps an extra key, and you can ask them for the resort’s free WiFi name and password. For four people, the affordable room came with breakfast and coffee each day. Breakfast was the same daily: rice, four hotdogs, egg, and corned beef with egg. The coffee was 3in1, available for pickup at reception. They also sell basic toiletries, snacks, and drinks. The place is an easy two or three minute walk from Kabsat and the beachfront, and close to McArthur highway, so it’s easy to find. First time in Elyu, Jan29-Feb2*. One morning I also saw a guy and a tattoo artist near reception.
