U Story Resort

The snorkeling spot is right there, even though there isn’t a beach, and there are “duyans” all over the place. I slept great every night. The rooms were clean and smelled good, the A/C was cold, and they changed all the linens daily. The bathroom experience was unique too. Food and coffee were great, and the staff were superb, especially Johaina! It’s a bit away from the San Juan crowd, which is exactly what I liked. Quiet, peaceful, and relaxing. I’ll definitely come back to Siquijor and book this resort again.

The view is amazing, and it’s a good spot if you want to swim in the ocean. But the food was just okay, especially for the price, and needs improvement. We tried the grilled liempo, which wasn’t as tender as we expected and tasted bland inside, with no seasoning there. The U Story Salad was a 3.5/5 for me. I’ve had better. We came because of the positive reviews, but I won’t be returning for the food.

The pool was lovely and the sea is beautiful, so it was a relaxing place to stay. We also got a few nights of uninterrupted sleep, a first for us in the Philippines without roosters or dogs waking us. Prices are much higher than elsewhere on the island. The standard Australian wine was nearly twice the price, around 1900 here versus about 950 elsewhere, which felt excessive. There was confusion about breakfast even though it was included in our booking, and sorting it out became a hassle. At checkout, after we returned the key, we unexpectedly got a refund of nearly €30, so it was resolved fairly. The whole thing was still frustrating. Nice and comfortable overall, but the pricing and organization had downsides.

The bungalow had lovely sea views, and the rooms were comfortable, cozy, and well designed. It’s a great snorkeling location, with turtles sometimes very close to the property. But I couldn’t sleep either night. At first we stayed in a bungalow with a view, where nearby construction made noise through the day and evening. Overnight, there was banging and scratching on the roof, possibly an animal up there, and the kitchen A/C units hummed loudly early in the morning. For night two, we moved farther from the construction and kitchen, hoping for quiet. A generator or water pump nearby kept switching on and off all night instead. From early morning, staff were also walking around and talking loudly on walkie-talkies. If noise, drilling, or mechanical sounds don’t bother you, you might enjoy the nice rooms, Bali-style bathrooms, sea views, and snorkeling right out front. Light sleepers may have a very hard time resting.
