We live on Bantayan, and this was our first and last visit. The food was a mess. The seafood lasagne and pasta my Filipino friends ordered were inedible. One friend, who’s a cook, called it the worst pasta he’d ever had, and none of us ate more than a few bites. My chilli wasn’t bad, but it came with fried bread instead of chips. I’d asked whether flour had been added because I can’t eat gluten. The owner was at the next table and heard my concern, but didn’t seem to care about what was served. The waitress tried to make up for the missing chips with fried potato slices, but they arrived after I’d finished. The Pina Colada tasted awful, mostly like ice, water, and rum. The waitress was hard to find, so I went to the cashier to get the bill. They’d charged us for the two cocktails we sent back, so I deducted that amount myself.

The lasagna was tasty, and the portion was so huge it could feed two or three people. The servers paid attention to customers and made up for a few lapses with a warm welcome. It’s a relaxed place where you can still hear each other talk. If you’re curious about a different foreign version of “mamá,” try the Swedish snus. The menu could use pictures and more details.

I wanted a Smashburger with French fries. The burger took over an hour and was only fair, and the fries still hadn’t arrived. Nobody else was ordering food, so I understand why. Waiting on fries from France, apparently. I won’t order this again.

I’ve got years of good memories here. The husband-and-wife owners are generous, the portions are big, and when I lived near the town square I ate here every day. At the time, it was easily the best value around. It feels like a home away from home, and I was treated like family. The menu has grown since then. These days I like the chicken schnitzel with potatoes, mushroom gravy, and vegetables, or the schnitzel burger with crispy fries. The photo shows a double chicken burger, and the fries were already half gone. For something familiar, the Filipino bifsteck with rice is a huge serving, enough for two meals if you add extra rice. Bam-e, or pancit noodles, are a good choice when eating with Filipino friends. Chicken lasagna used to be my regular order, but I stopped eating pasta after realizing how much it contributed to my weight gain. I’m grateful for the owners’ care and for the Western and Filipino food they serve on the island. This place feels welcoming, and the value has been outstanding.

I’ve had some great nights here and like the location, music, karaoke, and the new 50php Rum and Coke special. I’ll come back, but the bar service can be rough because one particular staff member is consistently rude. She doesn’t seem hospitable and acts like you’re bothering her when you ask for anything. I left 100php on the bar and went after one drink. I’m not sure she even noticed. Next time I’ll check whether she’s working first.
