The reef right in front of the resort was amazing, full of color, fish, and healthy coral. The room was cute and had everything we needed, including a TV and Wi-Fi that worked perfectly, which we hadn’t expected. There are only two cabins, right on the beach, so it was peaceful and we hardly saw anyone along the whole stretch. Sharon and her family arranged whatever we needed, like transport or a scooter rental, and were around all day if we wanted food or drinks. Kesha’s cooking was amazing, with lots of choices. They grow things in the garden and make almost everything at home. It was a perfect start to our holiday, and we’d return anytime. Thanks to Sharon and her whole family for hosting us and treating us like family.

The hosts are what make this place so hard to leave. Sharon is warm and humble, and once mentioned she’d paid local fishermen a large amount to free a baby whale shark caught nearby so it could get back to the ocean. She only told us when we asked about the fishermen. Her daughter is the one behind the amazing food, and the father has wonderful stories and conversations to share. We spent 10 nights here and could easily have stayed another 10. It felt more like a retreat than a place to sleep. We miss it already, especially the food, and next time we’ll stay at least 20 nights. A usual day might start with the beach and blue sea right outside the bed, then coffee brought to the terrace after a quick WhatsApp message, followed by breakfast by the water. We’d read in a shady hammock, snorkel the house reef with its colorful coral and fish, and sometimes spot a turtle. Janet came to our Airbnb for a 1.5-hour massage, which I’d recommend booking. Lunch could be delivered to the terrace by ordering on WhatsApp, and the free kayaks were great for an easy paddle along the coast. Later we’d read, journal, or watch the sunset. As a vegan, I had some of the best food I’ve had anywhere. They grow almost everything in their garden and make things themselves, including vegan cheese, feta, and tofu. There were around 30 dishes, and we still hadn’t tried them all after 10 nights. Ask about the pizza: it isn’t on the menu, but if you order about two days ahead, it’s heavenly. At night there might be a beach bonfire, a swim, and warming up under the stars. Pure magic. 🌴✨

We were staying nearby and ended up eating here for every meal. We didn’t mind at all, the food was delicious, fresh, nicely prepared, and there was plenty of variety. They grow a lot in their garden, and the menu includes South African meat as well as vegan and vegetarian choices. The whole family was very kind. One tip: order ahead so the small team can have your dishes ready when you’re hungry.

There are just two huts, so it stays really quiet. You can sit in a hammock, watch the sunsets, and see the stars, with the reef right in front of you for an easy snorkel. Most days you hear the waves and watch little fishing boats come and go. The village has a peaceful, simple feel, and there’s no need to go anywhere. The family hosting us was so welcoming and took good care of us. Kasha is a magician with food and seems like a nutritionist, making sure dietary needs are covered. She even made me a gluten-free birthday cake, and they had a bonfire for me. That meant a lot. The village kids made the day special too. We connected with them, and they put on a fish barbecue that we shared. I’ll miss them. I’ve traveled to a lot of countries and haven’t experienced a place quite like this. It’s somewhere you come for a few days and then wish you could stay much longer.

We’ve been back to the resort for a second visit, this time on our second trip to the Island. I visit the Phillilines every year, and I plan to return here every year too. It’s where your mind, body, and soul finally get the message that you’re on holiday. The rooms and hosts are incredible, and OMG, the food! We shared plenty of meals with guests from other resorts who came over to eat at Tablas. The white sand beach, turquoise water, and coral reefs that rise out of the water onto the beach are beautiful. If there’s a more beautiful place on earth, or a more beautiful family owning a resort, please let me know. Thank you Gary, Sharon, Keisha for sharing your piece of paradise and opening your doors so the rest of us can experience what you’ve put so much into. We’ll call you friends forever. Love Marc and Kandy.
