Food’s good and doesn’t come at inflated tourist prices. I especially recommend the American-style pizzas, about half what the other pizza places @ Alona charge. The owners are courteous and the staff are friendly, too. Beers are the cheapest @ Alona, and there’s free WiFi and a pool table. The toilets were very clean, which isn’t something you usually find in this country.

Those photos show the state of the room, including the chairs, fridge, bed, rusty pipes and taps. They call this a 3-star hotel, but it felt like a dump to me, and 1200 pesos a night was nowhere near worth it. There was no blanket, just a sheet, and a stain on the sheets. The toilet was unusable, the bowl full of water, and after I called, someone pumped it and left without saying they couldn’t fix it. There was no hot shower. The machine had sticky tape on it and a warning not to touch it, so it stayed off; both taps had hoses but only cold water. No WiFi in the room, and it was off at night anyway. A broken pipe ran water all night. They also charge 500p for a towel, 200p for each extra hour, and 30p for an extra towel. Don’t make our mistake. Don’t go there.

The room was big and had a swimming pool, but I couldn’t use it for any of the three days I stayed because they said it was being cleaned. The aircon was so hot that I still had to put my bed in front of it to sleep.

We really liked it. The staff service was good, especially the owner, and all the food was delicious, from the tacos and pizza to everything else. From Tom and Venus.
