The location was okay, but the road was so bumpy that most of the rides we took had trouble getting in and out. They can arrange a Tuktuk or call a car or van for port pickup and drop-off. It’s countryside, with nearby houses that have cows and chickens or roosters, so expect possible morning wake-up calls from them. There are lots of shared toilets and showers, including hot and cold water, and paper towels are provided. They said bath towels would be replaced two days after check-in, but when we asked after showering on our first day, staff gave us fresh ones anyway. Thanks for that. The room AC was very loud and woke us up now and then. There were gaps too, and a huge caterpillar got into our friend’s room next door through one. Around 9PMish, a big lizard 🦎 (tuko) makes itself known. The restaurant is on site and the food was fine, and there’s a billiard table. There’s an upstairs hangout area by the restaurant, but it needs maintenance. It was really dirty, the hammocks were broken, and even though we left our slippers downstairs, the floor was muddy and filthy. The books and games were old and dusty. The pool itself was nice, but nobody told us the closing time when we checked in. We went in after 10PM, and a staff member saw us enter without saying anything, then told us off almost 10 minutes into our swim. We were having a good time and were disappointed to have to get out. 😫

The price was great, and the service and food were great too. Getting there from the beach or airport means taking a very bumpy road that isn’t paved all the way, though it’s close. Cleanliness could be better. The pool was very dirty on day one, and my room smelled really strong when I arrived, maybe from the fabric softener on the bedding. They put me in S1, which is right by the dining tables. A group was drinking and talking there on my first night, and it was so loud it felt like they were in my room. I’d ask not to get that one.

The food was the worst part of our stay. We ordered pork liempo kare-kare and got something that looked like menudo. After we asked for a replacement, we waited 30 minutes and were served what seemed to be the same dish reused, with peanut butter, cabbage, more potatoes, and bell peppers added to make it look like kare-kare. It tasted like a menudo and pochero mix, with tiny bits of meat. A complete waste of money. The place itself was worn down, dirty, and poorly maintained, and didn’t look like the photos on the websites. We booked directly and paid almost twice the rate shown online, without breakfast included, which was frustrating. The sheets smelled as though they hadn’t been changed after the previous guests, so we questioned the cleanliness standards. None of the advertised activities were available apart from the billiard table, which staff were using constantly. Our stay was extremely disappointing, and we wouldn’t recommend it.

I arrived in the early evening, but there was no way to lock the accommodation or secure my belongings. The place was visibly damp and smelled damp too. There was just one electrical input, an extension lead with a fan plugged into it. As a solo traveller, I decided not to stay and booked somewhere else. If I’d known there was no lock or place to keep my things safe, I never would have booked.

The tents were clean, comfortable, and had what we needed. Glamping Alona was a cozy, different kind of outdoor stay, and the friendly, helpful staff made it fun and memorable.
