Skardu is a stunning town in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, framed by the Karakoram Range and the Indus River. Its lakes, dramatic scenery, and high-altitude trails make it a draw for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Places to see include Lower Kachura Lake at Shangrila Resort, with its floating restaurants, and the clear alpine waters of Upper Kachura Lake, where people can boat or picnic. Deosai National Park, known as the "Land of Giants," has broad meadows and Himalayan brown bears. Sheosar Lake sits high in Deosai and is known for its reflections, while blue Satpara Lake supplies water to Skardu. Other stops are Shigar Fort, a 17th-century fort now operating as a luxury hotel, Khaplu Fort, a historic palace once home to Baltistan’s rulers, and Manthokha Waterfall in Kharmang Valley. For trekking, K2 Base Camp is a legendary route to the world’s second-highest mountain, at 8,611 m. There’s plenty to do: hike toward K2, Baltoro Glacier, or Concordia; camp under Deosai’s night sky; take a jeep safari through remote valleys; photograph the lakes, landscapes, and old forts; or visit local bazaars and experience Balti culture. You can fly from Islamabad to Skardu with PIA or private airlines. The flight takes about an hour and passes over Nanga Parbat and K2. By road, the trip from Islamabad takes around 22 hours along the Karakoram Highway (KKH), passing through Gilgit. Spring, from April to June, brings blooming scenery and pleasant weather. Summer, July to September, is best for trekking and lake visits. In autumn, October-November, the valleys turn golden. Winter, December-March, brings snow-covered landscapes, ideal for winter.

There are lots of viewpoints from the hotel, and the services are good. It was really cold when I visited, but they had a lovely fire system for guests at night. It was one of my favorite tours when I went there.

The staff were really helpful, and the place was neat and clean. Masha Allah, hot water was available too.

It was a clean, peaceful place.

The setting and location were outstanding, and the rooms were too. The service, though, wasn't good...
