When we arrived in Białystok, it was 35-40°C. We had to work from 10 AM until 22:00 (10 PM) in the heat, without AC. The hosts were kind enough to deliver the keys, but when we reached our room around 23:00 (11 PM), the key wouldn't open the door. I heard someone inside, knocked, and a person opened it, surprised to see us. Apartamenty Józefina had booked two groups into the same apartment. They told us to call reception, but the host who had brought our keys didn't answer. I was exhausted and sweaty, trying to find reception's number on booking.com, but it wasn't in our confirmation. Luckily, the people in the apartment were polite and helpful and gave us the number. Reception arranged keys for a different apartment, so we waited with our luggage in the corridor. The motion-activated light kept going off every 10 seconds. We'd been in the new apartment only 15 minutes and were showering when someone else grabbed our door handle. Had they given someone else keys to this apartment too? I was glad I'd locked the door and put the keys in the keyhole. I was too tired to open it or help them. I'd specifically written in SPECIAL REQUESTS when booking: "PLEASE MAKE SURE THE AC WORKS, AS IT'S THE REASON WE'RE BOOKING WITH YOU". But the bedroom AC didn't work, and the living room one barely did. I couldn't sleep for most of the night. It only got comfortable enough around 5 AM, so I slept two or three hours. The cleaning staff we met when leaving were nice enough. Once downstairs, though, I realised I'd left my expensive drinks and all my water in the fridge. It had only been about five minutes, so I called the cleaners to ask if I could come back for them. They said they'd already left the premises, and wouldn't come back to help. Did they really leave? I think they wanted to keep the drinks for themselves. This was a horrible first experience with Booking.com, and one of my worst travel experiences in recent years. I travel A LOT.
