We recently stayed at this very pleasant resort on the town's edge, right by the forest. There's plenty to do nearby: the guarded beach has a great swimming area, free toilets and changing rooms, an amphitheater, playground, and ropes course. The lake and beautiful forests are good for walks, and in season you can find plenty of mushrooms and berries. Luiza's Woods by the castle is lovely too. At the resort, there are rooms with bathrooms, a kitchenette and large dining area, courtyard, parking, barbecue area, and bikes the owners rent out. The atmosphere is pleasant. For a day out, you can see the restored Teutonic castle ruins in town and its historical museum. Dinners at the 777 restaurant by Księdza Antoniego roundabout are delicious and beautifully served. Szczecińska Street has an amazing outdoor zoo with tigers, lions, other animals, and lots for children. If the weather is bad, options include Chojnice, the Nature Education Center of the Tuchola Forest National Park in Chociński Młyn, Tuchola and its Tuchola Forest Museum, and the Sat-Okha Museum of North American Indians in Wymysłów. Sat-Okha may have been the only Polish Native American, son of a Siberian woman who escaped exile in Russia to Canada and married an Indian chief. You really should go kayaking too. For families with small children, a several-hour trip down the picturesque, shallow Chocina River to Lake Karsińskie is a good choice. It winds past villages, fields, and forests, where you may see cattle and horses grazing, along with swans, storks, and wild ducks. More experienced kayakers often take the Brda River, for example from Rytel to Nadolna Karczma. Search Google Maps for kayak rentals.
