Hotel Restauracja Varia

My daughter and I spent six days here to get away from the bustle of London, and we were thrilled to find it. We travel a lot and usually choose five-star hotels, so we were surprised by how this boutique hotel in a small Polish town compared with luxurious places we’ve stayed in Barbados, New York, and Paris. It’s distinctive and stylish without being pretentious, and it really feels like home. The historic red brick building and its arched windows make an impression right away. Inside, the modern, beautiful decor fits the exterior so well. Everything was sparkling clean, the staff were warm and friendly, and the food and drinks were wonderful. It’s a lovely place to unwind, enjoy the charm of a small town, or visit for business, with conference rooms and just an hour’s drive to the airport. We’ll be back in spring. I’m so glad we found this hidden gem!

The kitchen worked better than everything else, and the service quality was very poor. Reception staff weren’t very helpful. I’d paid in advance at their request, which was fine, though that doesn’t happen often. After a late lunch, I opened a bill at the restaurant as I normally do when travelling, but they called my room twice asking me to come down and pay because they wouldn’t let me settle it at checkout. They also demanded proof of COVID vaccination from me. That was illegal, and the procedure was sickening. No “thank you” or “you’re welcome” either. I wouldn’t recommend this place for business travel.

We just wanted a good night’s sleep before the long drive home, but the room was filthy. Dust was everywhere, including a half-centimeter layer on top of the bed’s headboard. The bedsheets were dirty, and there was a piece of bread under the bed growing its own forest. After we complained, we were moved to a second room, also with a dirty bed, and without any apology. Eventually we got a cleanish room and the first hint of an apology. Before we left, the owner apologized and gave us two free bottles of water. Honestly, we should have had our money back. The water felt like an insult.

The best hotel in Dzialdowo, with clean, nice rooms at a good price. Finally, somewhere you feel comfortable and understood. One suggestion: more English TV channels. I recommend it to other travelers.
