Hotel Marysin Dwór

We happened to stay here, right across from the railway station and the bus stop into town. The room was large and comfortable, the staff were nice, and both dinner and breakfast were excellent. The painting of a Jewish person counting money caught us off guard, though the rest of the decor was in a nice style. There's a large public swimming pool nearby. Katowice has a modern mix of new architecture and no longer feels like a grim heavy-industry town. It also has lovely reminders of its coal-mining past, including a workers' housing neighborhood that was real social housing long before socialist times. Highly recommended!

The food was lovely, and the staff were friendly and went out of their way to help with directions. Everyone spoke fluent English. The room and bathroom were both spacious and very clean. This budget hotel exceeded what we expected, and I'd gladly recommend both the hotel and restaurant.

The breakfast was good, and the staff were helpful with information about getting to the city center by public transport. There's free parking on site, and the hotel rooms are rustic but okay. Our room didn't have AC, so it got a bit warm in summer, though they do leave a fan in the room. A nice enough place for the price, especially for an overnight stop on a road trip.

We weren't told at check-in about a wedding party that went on until 4:30 a.m., so we didn't sleep all night because of the party and loud music. The hotel refused to deal with the problem and said we'd been informed before arriving. I wouldn't recommend staying here, even for one night, especially with small children.
