Best Western Grand Hotel

The location is great, and breakfast was delicious. But there were lots of problems in the rooms, including broken lights and electrical outlets. The bathroom wasn't clean, especially the shower, and there was a sewage smell. Think twice before booking.

The location wasn't bad, close to a lovely street in Kielce, and breakfast was okay. We also tried the restaurant one evening and actually liked it. Still, my five-night stay wasn't pleasant, and I wouldn't recommend the hotel. Please make sure you don't get room 342. The bathroom smelled of sewage. I asked them to check it because I'm pregnant and especially sensitive to bad smells. They poured in vinegar, baking soda, and boiling water, but the smell didn't go away. The WiFi was awful too. I couldn't use it on my phone or laptop for work. I called reception to ask for bottled water, and a woman who didn't speak English brought a room-temperature bottle. She couldn't explain that they had no cold water, so I called again to make sure they understood. Then they told me there was no cold water. Very odd.

Parking is at the back, with easy access to the hotel lobby. There's also an Avis rental service in the hotel. When rain seemed likely as I was heading out for a walk, I asked for an umbrella. The receptionist went to the office and lent me one, which felt like it was her personal umbrella. Very thoughtful service. I like this kind of old-style hotel. It had been renovated recently and felt fresh, with a slight modern touch. A few areas were closed, so perhaps it was past its peak. Breakfast was good but basic, with a juice maker and plenty of fruit and vegetables to choose from. I'd stay here again next time.

The hotel's restaurant food was the one good thing. For four nights during MSPO, I paid 5000 PLN for a room about the size of a phone booth, with no running water from the tap. There was only one iron per floor. I've never had such a bad deal for the price.
