Butorowy Dwór

The rooms were beautiful and clean, the staff helpful, and the views absolutely amazing.

Breakfast was the best part for us: nice choices, some items changing each day, good coffee, fruit and vegetables. We always came at opening because things weren’t refilled fast and later arrivals could find options gone. The mountain view and charming look were lovely too, though plenty of families meant lots of children around. The rest of our week in early July 2024 was a mixed experience. My wife and I had first booked a small room, then upgraded to one with a balcony for the longer stay, drawn in by the reviews and photos. The bed was much smaller than a Queen and uncomfortable, with springs I could feel, so I slept poorly all week. Noise came through the walls from the next door and upstairs neighbors and their kids. There’s no AC or fan, so we had to buy one at a local Homegood store. Traffic on the busy nearby road was nearly constant, and we couldn’t keep the street-facing windows open. With no screens, bugs and flies came inside; the balconies face each other, so privacy meant drawing the curtains, and several windows didn’t have blackout curtains. Summer sunrise before 5am had us up very early. It’s far from Zakopane, with little or no sidewalk, so walking anywhere felt too dangerous and we rented a car in town for the week. There was no in-room information about activities, and the Wifi was painfully slow. More hotels are being built, so traffic may get heavier still. This place needs major improvements if it wants to attract international visitors.

We only stopped to eat, and the meal was excellent. The restaurant sits in a quiet village with a beautiful view.

Getting up to Gubalowka was easy, about a 10 minute uphill walk. We’d assumed from the photos that Butorowy Dwor was tucked away, but it’s beside a busy main road. Since the buildings sit up on a hill, though, we didn’t hear the traffic, and even in the busy season there were no cars at night. My husband and I spent three nights there over New Year’s and liked the whole stay: our room had amazing views, the service was great, the food was delicious, and breakfast had a fantastic buffet selection.
