Aparthotel Old Town

The rooms were very spacious, warm and cosy, with a key lock for getting in late at night. We found plenty of local shops for room essentials, plus lots of restaurants along the way and around the Main Square, which was close by. It took about nine minutes to walk there, or 15 if you're stumbling, lol. We would definitely come again for the affordable price and location.

It was very basic, just as we expected. The room was warm even though it was -11 outside, and the shower had great pressure. This is room-only, so we didn't have breakfast. It's a good walk into the old town, with the castle not far away, and the Auschwitz and salt mines meeting point is five minutes away. We contacted the aparthotel before our flight because we expected to arrive after 6 pm. As arranged, they sent the front door and room key lock codes by text. The main entrance didn't seem to be locked anyway.

The shower was the best I've ever had, really powerful. The place was clean, the location was alright, and they cleaned the room and brought more coffee when we asked. There was only one pillow and it wasn't great, and just two coffee sachets to start with. All in all, okay for a visit.

Booking this was a big mistake. We arrived in Krakow at about 11:30 pm and called the mobile number on the door several times, but no one answered for 20 minutes. Eventually someone picked up and gave us the entry code. The room was very disappointing, like a backpackers' hostel, with worn bed linen and old, tired furnishings. There were instructions for coffee maker capsules, but no machine in the room, and the shower head was held together with cardboard. Breakfast came to the door at 7 am after a loud knock. It was cheese, ham and rolls in a brown bag, and with nowhere to eat in the room, we ended up having it on the bed. The whole experience made us feel like we were slumming it. I called reception politely to explain we were unhappy and got a very rude response. We then went there to say we wanted to check out, but staff made no effort to address our concerns. We'd paid for four future nights, and when we asked about a refund, the receptionist said she'd look into it. We moved to a lovely four-star hotel for exactly the same nightly price, but the aparthotel has refused to refund the nights we didn't stay. It was expensive, a huge disappointment and completely ruined our time in Krakow. I definitely wouldn't recommend it.
