B&B La Fontaine

The room was clean, and the location right in the center was great. It did get loud outside in the morning.

We were pleasantly surprised by the old-fashioned decor and style blended into a modern place with the basics covered. There’s no elevator, as you’d expect in an old building, but the staff were friendly and accommodating, and could hold our luggage on arrival or departure day. We turned up hours before check-in and were lucky to get our key straight away. The windows were thick and double layered, keeping out the noise from the busy Kraków main square. The hotel is in an excellent location with a fantastic view. It made our Kraków trip amazing. We’ll try to book again and recommend it to friends.

I can only speak to the 8 days I recently spent in room 27, reportedly a Superior Room. By recognized standards, this is a 1 Star hotel. I’m not sure what was supposed to be superior about the room: it had only the bare basics. The four flights of stairs were steep, and there’s no lift. When we first opened the door, the strong smell of dust and body sweat made it clear the room had seen a lot of use. The decor was dated and worn, with light fittings hanging off the walls, broken and missing bathroom tiles, and silverfish. The bed was tired, with two small, thin single duvets. There was one chipboard wardrobe and just four hangers for two people on a 7-night stay. There was no air conditioning or ventilation beyond a window that opened onto the historic market square. That was the biggest problem: the square is noisy all day and night. Tourists and stag parties fill it at night, cleaners and road sweepers are there in the early hours, then lorries and vans start delivering to the restaurants and bars from 5am. The room was smelly and very hot, so the window needed to stay open, but with all that noise right outside it was impossible to sleep. You can believe the other reviews here.

The room had flies and mosquitoes as soon as we opened the door. The AC leaked and left a terrible smell on the carpet. We’d been told about it, but hadn’t expected it to be that bad. The bathrooms weren’t properly cleaned either. It’s a very old apartment that could be made beautiful. When we arrived, the front office lady offered us an upgrade to a four-bedroom apartment, which seemed like a great start, and the location with a view of the main square was promising. One star for the lady and the location, that’s it. Later, locals told us, “they just don’t care” in Krakow.
