Hotel Convictus Cracovia

The breakfast was super, and dinner at the restaurant was world class, the food was that good. The staff were unbelievably friendly and service minded too. We made a mistake with our booking when we arrived 07.02.2024, and the front desk helped us out in a really friendly, professional way. I’d normally give this hotel 5 stars, but I use a C-pap machin and the electricity kept shutting off every hour or so when there was no movement in the room. I had to get up and move to turn it back on, so I didn’t get much sleep.

The hotel was clean and well kept, with an average three-star feel, and I had no complaints about the interior or general atmosphere. I stayed for several days, but a serious incident left me anxious. I was there for business with important documents and cash in the room. At around 10:00 a.m. one morning, someone opened my door and tried to come in without knocking or announcing themselves. I was lying on the bed, on the phone with a friend, and didn’t see who it was right away. When I turned around, the person panicked, slammed the door hard, and ran off. If it had been housekeeping by mistake, a knock or apology would have made sense. Their reaction made it hard for me to see it as an innocent mistake, and it looked like someone may have thought the room was empty. I don’t know what they intended, but it could reasonably have been an attempted theft. I called the hotel manager straight away. They said, “We will check and call you back shortly,” but no one ever followed up or explained what happened. I’ve consulted the police because of the incident and the hotel’s lack of response. This is a serious security concern, so future guests should think carefully before booking.

We’d booked and paid weeks ahead for 8 rooms for 20 people, for 2 nights, but on arrival they gave us 10 rooms. We told reception there was a problem. The first night went fine, then 2 rooms had to be changed for the second night, and the replacements were unfortunately a lower category than the ones we’d paid for. Reception didn’t seem to understand our issue, and we got no compensation. We were told it was due to overbooking. If we hadn’t accepted the lower-category rooms, we would have had nowhere to stay that night. I don’t see how this can happen when everything was booked and paid for in advance. Outrageous.

My girlfriend and I left Cracovia Convictus 0 very disappointed, even though the hotel itself was clean. We also can’t ignore the possibility that race played a part in how we were treated. On Sunday morning, we went down at 10:00 am for breakfast, within the posted weekend hours of 7:00-11:00. They wouldn’t let us into the restaurant, said breakfast was “over,” and handed us pre-packed lunch boxes with just one sandwich each. We had paid for a full breakfast. At check-in, we’d been told that because a large group would be using the restaurant, we “could opt” for a lunch box instead of breakfast on Sunday. It was presented as if we had to do that, but we didn’t agree. The large group was accommodated in the breakfast hall while we were kept out. As a Black couple, we strongly suspect we were deliberately excluded. Whether that was intentional or not, the experience felt discriminatory and humiliating. We didn’t get what we paid for and were left hungry and deeply uncomfortable. This is unacceptable treatment of paying guests, not just bad service. I can’t recommend the hotel, and I hope management seriously looks at fairness and respect in how guests are treated.
