Hotel Polonia

This was my sixth work stay in Toruń, and easily the worst. The rooms feel empty and neglected, and the beds are really uncomfortable. Breakfast was bleak: it seemed like staff had grabbed three kinds of pork from the Żabka next door and called it enough. The eggs smelled a bit off, there was nothing sweet, and when I asked for a milk alternative they looked at me like I was ridiculous. Hard to believe this place still feels stuck in the 90s. Best avoided.

The friendly staff were easily the best part of the hotel. The breakfast buffet was limited, though the quality was decent. The old-fashioned furnishings have some charm, but the cleaning could be better. Even the grey, soap-smelling soap seemed to belong with the dated furniture. I wonder if the owners use grey soap at home too. The central Toruń location is convenient, but at night drunk groups were shouting and swearing on both nights, and the windows barely blocked the noise. It made the stay unsettling. The first night there was no heating when it was about 5 degrees C outside, and there wasn't even a hint of compensation. Heating worked the second night. The hotel has potential, but management seems to cut costs at every turn.

The location is the only good thing here. On our one night stay, the water stopped after 10pm, so there was no shower or usable toilet and nobody had told us this would happen. My family managed to shower before it went off, but I was last and couldn't. At reception, the woman first blamed city maintenance. By 8am there was still no water, and she was back, rude about the whole thing. Then she said it was the hotel's maintenance man working on it, not the city. There was no notice anywhere about the outage. This is a matter for public health authorities. The front desk woman was rude and unprofessional throughout. Save yourself the trouble and stay somewhere else. Most hotels nearby are close, and it's only a couple more minutes' walk.

The location is amazing, and the hotel allows pets, but the rooms are terrible. The beds squeak and the pillows are so flat and hard you'd need 7 of them. The sink water was yellow, and our room had barely any heat compared with my parents' room. There was no shampoo or soap. When I asked at reception whether they'd forgotten to put them out, the woman looked at me like I had 7 heads and said in Polish, “lady, that's not this type of the hotel”. You also have to fill in a mile long breakfast form every day, even though breakfast is included. The front desk barely speaks English.
