Grampa's Hostel

The beds were comfortable, the place was clean and looked recently renovated, and the location is good. The shared kitchen was a nice extra. But the room’s AC didn’t work and smelled bad, there was no hot water in the showers, and the luggage lockers were tiny. It was full of older Polish men, with no social atmosphere, and the staff weren’t welcoming or sociable.

We booked the whole room for our group of 10, which worked out really well. The hostel was very clean, including the separate bathrooms, and it’s close to the old town. Reception were friendly and suggested places to visit, as well as explaining the rules about drinking in public. There’s a 10 pm quiet period. Parking nearby is either free city parking or a somewhat shady local lot behind the building, depending on what you prefer. It has the usual hostel basics: bathrooms, showers, kitchen, fridge, a lounge area, and an outdoor smoking spot downstairs. Good value and a great stay, though towels and other extras cost more.

The daytime staff were helpful and friendly, and check-in and checkout were easy. They let me stay before check-in time and after checkout, which I appreciated. The common room is bright and roomy, and there’s a shared kitchen with free coffee and tea, plus a stove, microwave, toaster, and kettle. Bathrooms were clean, but hot water only worked on my first day. The bedroom was spacious and bright, the beds were fine, though I found the pillow uncomfortable. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the market hall, and the internet is average. The night shift guy was rude and careless. He talked loudly with other guests until 1 or 2 in the morning, ignoring me and others when we asked him to keep it down. Still, it’s reasonably priced and fine for a couple of days.

Patricia made the stay memorable. She was attentive and had a pleasant manner, and the staff overall were friendly and professional. The rooms were spacious, and the facilities were clean, including the kitchen, showers, and washrooms. I’d definitely stay here again when I return.
