Hotel Podkowa

It was below zero when we arrived in late November, and we'd have been in serious trouble if we couldn't afford a more expensive hotel and an Uber to get there. Expedia refunded me and gave me a voucher for another hotel, thankfully, but I still paid more for a last-minute booking than I would have by reserving in advance. I'd booked Hotel Podkowa about a month earlier, received confirmation, and had my credit card charged. A little after 7 pm local time, we found the property apparently deserted, with all the lights off. Through the entrance window we could see garbage bags on the floor and covering the furniture. Mail was piled in and around the mailbox, as if nobody had checked it in quite some time. We knocked and rang the bell, but got no answer. Calls to the hotel kept dropping. They'd taken the booking and payment, yet left us without a place to sleep. I don't know whether they're going out of business or just didn't have enough guests to bother staffing the place that night. Either way, they should at least have contacted me and refunded me if they couldn't provide accommodation. That lack of basic courtesy is appalling, and the whole experience was completely unacceptable. I doubt I'd have got my money back without Expedia, since there were no staff and the phone didn't work. Don't stay here; they can't be relied on to honor even prepaid reservations. Book somewhere else and spare yourself the trouble we went through.

Breakfast was a lovely, quiet start to the day. I appreciated having no music or TV in the cozy restaurant. The service was friendly and courteous, and the prices felt very fair. My room was dated but clean and cozy, with wood everywhere that I loved. The shower was good, as were the mattress and pillow, and I had a quiet, restful night. No complaints. It's only a quick taxi ride to the station or the center.

We've eaten at their restaurant many times, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. The staff are friendly and professional, the food is good, and there's a decent number of vegetarian choices. Their mushroom soup is my favorite.

Kind staff, a clean and tidy room with everything you could need, and private parking. There's a grocery store and a few restaurants nearby. Breakfast isn't anything fancy, like everywhere, but there's enough choice to fill you up for the day. Thanks for accommodating us.
