Hyatt Place Bayamon

I booked through Cap One Travel and called on Tuesday of the same week to confirm. My adult daughter had also booked a room through the Hyatt website and checked that hers was set. When we arrived around 9pm and took turns checking in, she had no trouble, but they couldn't find my reservation. The hotel was full, with three late check-ins still expected. Cap One Travel told me the Hyatt property had canceled my booking on Thursday, but said they could arrange a nearby property, which they did. My daughter told me her rate was $325 plus taxes per night, while I had prepaid $180 total. That’s price gouging at its finest. I won't stay at a Hyatt property again.

The rooms and amenities were pretty standard. What made the stay more trouble than it was worth was the front desk giving us conflicting parking information and then failing to make things right. At least four employees gave us completely different explanations of the parking charges. Each said they’d check with the manager about the unfair charges, but nothing happened, so we had to keep chasing it ourselves. The one real advantage is the location, if you want to visit the mall or casino next door.

Not worth the price. The shower in my room didn't work, and there wasn't proper air ventilation. Parking was charged separately, and the breakfast was the same as what I've had at a hotel that cost only $58 a day in the suburbs. Hyatt has made a name for itself, but now it feels like they charge without offering proper service.

We were there for four nights over Christmas after booking at the last minute, when award-night choices were limited. None of the three rooms I booked got a Globalist upgrade; we had the standard king rooms with sofas. We did get 4 p.m. late checkout for all three rooms, and free parking on the award booking, which saved $15 a night for four nights. The location is handy, right by a casino, a mall with a big Walmart, and a plaza with a Sam’s Club. But the hotel was very cold, especially the lobby, which was almost freezing. The small pool was closed about half the time and only opened during the last two days of our stay. The place was “renovated” last year, though the work looked sloppy and it already feels dated. It seems they only made cosmetic changes in the rooms. The original A/C/HVAC is incredibly loud, and with thin walls I could hear everything outside. I couldn’t sleep without earplugs. The rooms were extremely cold, and the thin blankets didn't help, so I requested extras. I turned off the A/C for two nights, but it still made noise even when it was supposedly off. Dust was the worst part. Just a couple of hours after using the hair dryer and serum, I could see dust on top of them. I had to take an allergy pill, and all three rooms had the same problem. I think it's from the old A/C system. Breakfast was mediocre, with few options, even though it’s free for all guests. The parking card from check-in worked only about half the time, and I had to get it recoded at the front desk three times during our four-night stay.
