The one good thing is the beach is right there. We booked for one night because we wanted to be near the airport, but getting into the room was a struggle because the door wouldn’t unlock easily. The room was so small, and the bed was springy enough that whenever my husband moved, I bounced or rolled. I love my husband, but I don’t want to be squished in a bed with him. The pillows were so high they made me feel like I was sitting straight up while asleep. We also had to kill two roaches as soon as we came in. Leaving was a hassle, too. You have to carry the gate opener out to the road, go back to the room to leave it, then return to the lockbox to open it and drop off the room keys. If partying matters more to you than comfort or being roach-free, this might be your kind of place.

The beach is right outside, and the area was quiet, with food, bars, and nightlife close by. The place worked perfectly for two. We didn’t spend much time inside, but there was a mini fridge and a hot plate for cooking.

Coco Mar is practically on the water, very quiet, and a mix of Airbnbs and residences. It’s one of many small, older condo buildings in the area. The main Google photo showing a dilapidated, graffitied building is misleading, that building is a few buildings away. This was my first stay, and I’d come back. The common areas aren’t fancy, and the elevator scares me a bit because it’s small, ancient, shaky, and rated for 400lb. It hasn’t failed, though. My only reason to avoid staying at Coco Mar again would be if I couldn’t use the stairs.

It was a last-minute booking. I couldn’t use the remote to get into the parking area, and there were no washcloths. The beach was dirty, but people around there were very nice.

It’s a bit dated, but the location is hard to beat for the price. You’re steps from the beach and close to restaurants and markets. A great spot for a beach getaway.
