Canario Boutique Hotel

The third night was especially frightening. Around 3:30 a.m. I heard gunshots, someone tried to force my room door, and people screamed for over two hours. With crime in the Condado area increasing, I felt alarmed and unsafe. I came from far away, and experiencing this as a tourist in my own country was embarrassing. I won't return. My first night had already been awful. There were insects in the room that bit me, and both the beds and floor were dirty. The problem wasn't dealt with until the next day, so I slept that way. The receptionist only gave me sheets that night and I had to change them myself. The windows wouldn't close properly, either, so constant street noise made it impossible to rest. This was my second visit. The first had been good, but this time was completely different and very unpleasant. At the start, the receptionist was quite rude, warning that my stay would probably be canceled if the payment methods weren't in the booking person's name. She said I could risk losing around $500 through Booking. The situation was uncomfortable enough that a supervisor had to be called to sort it out.

The location was beautiful and convenient. We could walk around the area for restaurants and other sights, while Old San Juan and Escambron Dive Park were only about a five-minute Uber or taxi ride away. There was also a pool at a neighboring location, around a 10-minute walk away. The hotel felt very affordable, and I'd stay again and recommend supporting this local business. We were there for about five days for a birthday trip. The room and bathroom were very clean, and the hotel's style gave it a homely, vacation feel. The staff were amazing and helpful. Shout out to Ana at the front desk, and to the older gentleman who helped us check in. Just be aware there are no elevators if you have a lot of luggage or mobility issues.

It's a cozy, affordable place with a great location, easy walking distance to the beach and lots of good spots. Check-in was quick, and the staff were kind and helpful. My room was very clean and comfortable, and really did feel like a home away from home. I only wish I'd found this cute boutique hotel earlier in my Puerto Rico visit. I'm glad I discovered it at all, though, and I'll definitely be back. Highly recommend if you want a welcoming stay with a cozy feel.

The room was dirty and not what I'd expected. I had to ask for clean sheets after checking in, and wore slippers the whole stay because the floor felt so dirty. Eddy at the front desk was nice and helpful. Johnny was more like a tour guide for me 🤣, such a nice man who went above and beyond. He helped me so much and made the stay 100X better. If I ever came back, it'd be because of him. Thank you, Johnny.
