DoubleTree by Hilton San Juan

We stayed three nights, and I left neither impressed nor completely disappointed. The area seemed quite safe. There were always police around, and hotel staff stayed at the valet desk late into the night. It’s close to the airport and convention center, handy if you’re in town for a concert or event, and there’s a very convenient supermarket across the street that’s open 24/7. The location is okay. The rooms are small. The listing said there’d be a 65-inch TV, but ours was closer to 40 inches and had regular cable channels. The bathroom was strange and uncomfortable: the privacy-glass door still lets you see inside from outside, the shower door swings outward and splashes water out, and sound echoes so clearly that bathroom noises are awkward when other people are in the room. Skip the downstairs restaurant. The prices are insane, and the food was awful. We spent over $50 on two burgers, and they were soggy and flavorless.

James was the best part of our stay. He was the only staff member who took the time to learn my name, ask about my trip, remember details, and greet me with a genuine smile. I often saw him chatting with other guests and showing them the same kindness. He’s a real asset, and I’d stay here again because of him. Please give him a raise! The location is great, near restaurants, museums, beaches, cafes, and a 24/7 grocery store, Super Max. It’s a little removed from the main tourist area on Ashford Ave. Our room was spacious and clean enough, and I enjoyed the hot tub.

Valet parking made everything easy, and the service felt flawless throughout. Having the pool and jacuzzi just a few steps from our patio door was such a luxury. Breakfast was amazing, especially the empanadillas de pollo, and the warm chocolate-chip cookie at check-in was a lovely start to our stay at the DoubleTree on Calle Loiza. We had a joyful time and can’t wait to come back.

The team at DoubleTree San Juan made the stay, and I’d absolutely return. They quickly sorted out an initial problem with my reservation charges and handled it with real care and professionalism. The customer service was outstanding. The food was delicious, and the bar became one of my favorite parts of the visit. The mixologist made some of the best hotel cocktails I’ve had. The gym isn’t large, but it’s clean and comfortable, with well-maintained equipment and enough variety for a solid vacation workout.
