The booking didn't mention a two-guest maximum per room, but when we arrived at Hotel Nest we were made to sign a policy saying that limit applied even to visitors. We had booked a flight and hotel bundle through Expedia for two people, and planned for my aunt, who lives two hours away on the island, to stay one night and help translate at our wedding planning event. Instead, we had to pay $200, the cost of a night's stay, just for her to visit, and they didn't even offer us a room for her. It felt like we were being schemed out of our money. The room had no hot water, trash was left behind, and the internet and TV weren't working. The area also felt unsafe, with many homeless people, little nearby dining, and a dark setting. This is in Rio Pedras, not really San Juan as the hotel advertises, and about 25 minutes from the tourist area of Viejo San Juan. The manager was supposed to call about my aunt visiting, but never did. I was there for the weekend with my future husband for a bridal expo, and the stay spoiled what should have been an exciting planning trip. I'm considering getting married in Puerto Rico and bringing 50 guests, so the way we were treated was embarrassing for the island. I appreciate the staff who tried to advocate for us about the lack of booking transparency and room problems, but we would at least have liked to speak with the manager. Check the guest policy, location, and reviews before booking. Like another reviewer said, Hotel Nest feels more like a hostel than a hotel. I wouldn't stay here again.

It's about a 10 minute drive to downtown San Juan, and there are restaurants within walking distance. The area felt a little sketchy, though not too bad overall. We had a comfortable stay. The room was nice, the AC worked well, and although the bed wasn't very soft, we slept fine. Breakfast was included, with pastries, coffee, and similar things. There's parking behind the building, though you might need directions from the front desk, plus free street parking on the sides.

I booked this room because it was close to where I needed to be for my early flight. The room was great and the staff were friendly. The AC stopped working during my stay, but the staff stepped in right away and gave me something complimentary for the inconvenience. Thanks for making my stay enjoyable!

The staff were great, and the neighborhood has a cute, artsy urban feel. The room smelled musty at first, but after I turned on the AC, it was fine when I got back from dinner. The botanical gardens are a five-minute drive away, and Cafe Paraiso down the street was nice for breakfast.

My mom and I woke up on our last night with rashes all over, but my sister, who slept in another bed, was fine. We tried to look for bedbugs, though we aren't familiar with them and couldn't find any. Employees checked the bed but didn't remove the plastic covering the mattresses in front of us. It had lots of holes, so we couldn't see underneath. They said the rashes must have happened the day before at the beach, but my sister had been in the sand and gone everywhere we did, and she was fine. We felt they didn't take us seriously and treated us as if we were trying to get something out of them. When we first arrived, there was a very strong mold smell. We didn't complain because it's a humid island, but if strong smells bother you, don't stay here. When we left, we also saw a bunch of dead ants. My sister is very allergic, and thankfully nothing happened. Check the pictures. At $150 a night, stay at your own risk.
