The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel is within walking distance of Old San Juan, about 15 minutes from Plaza de la Colon. But after being buzzed in, we waited more than 20 minutes in the lobby for someone to check us in. There are no key cards either, so every time you enter, you have to ring the bell and wait for staff to buzz you through. Our room was spacious, though the sitting area was very dark and we never used it. The only TV was in the bedroom. Expedia asked us to rate breakfast, but we weren't offered any and didn't see a place in the hotel where breakfast was served.

The location was central and felt safe, and the staff were kind and respectful. Still, the hotel wasn't worth $190 a night: there was no food service, and the disorganization made the stay frustrating. Staff seemed inexperienced. Check-in took about 15 minutes because nobody was in the lobby, and the promised entry PIN and Wi-Fi details weren't sent in advance. I had to ask several times, then return to the lobby twice when my key wouldn't open the room. My first room had no electricity, and the welcome sparkling wine listed as a Diamond benefit was missing. After another wait, I was moved to a different room, but it hadn't been cleaned properly. The coffee machine was dirty and the floor was unclean.

No staff showed up at all during my five days there, and I never had a hot shower. Learn from other people's mistakes. Choosing this hotel will leave you with a nasty surprise, and you'll regret it.

We booked through booking.com for the Oliver Hotel's soft opening over the holiday weekend. The rooms were all brand new, with strong AC, a nice layout, and quality furnishings. Staff were so friendly and accommodating. They greeted us with a beer and a cool towel at check-in, remembered our names, and helped us find fun things to do in San Juan. The hotel was close to the old city, the beach, and the capital building. We had a great stay and would absolutely come back.

My wife booked the hotel for our anniversary, and walking in right away felt luxurious and relaxing. It was close to all the excursions we did. Such a great spot for my wife. Hope we can come back soon.
