The breakfast was generous, with coffee and milk, fresh orange juice, yogurt, fruit, granola, homemade brownies, muesli, jams, honey, bread and cheese. You also get one egg each, fried or as an omelet. The woman looking after breakfast was incredibly kind and attentive, the other guests we met were friendly and interesting, and mornings felt lively and welcoming. Everyone spoke English well, and water was included, with a fresh bottle available each day. Our upgraded room had stylish sinks and a bed on an upper level, almost like a cozy childhood fort or gingerbread house. It felt snug and secure, with a breathtaking view of the central square, terracotta rooftops and bell tower. The room looked even nicer than the photos, and mirrors added an elegant touch. The linens were clean and fresh, the bed was comfortable, and closing the shutters made it easier to sleep. There was a kettle and cups, though storage space was limited. We did spot a few tiny ants on the floor. Check-in came with some issues, but everything afterward was wonderful. For the price, the hotel offers a lot, and it would be hard to find such a captivating interior in a town dominated by elderly tourists. The broken towel heater was a real inconvenience, though. Our things wouldn't dry, so we had to use damp towels and try drying clothes with a very weak hairdryer. The staff didn't seem in a hurry to fix it. There's a shared area where breakfast is served, and if stairs aren't a problem, this place is a good choice for someone with refined taste.

I booked through Booking.com because I have a family wedding nearby. I selected payment on arrival, but the full amount was taken from my account a year ahead of the stay, with no notice or communication explaining it. I cancelled because of this. I've been chasing both the hotel and Booking.com for a refund for over seven weeks, and the hotel still hasn't provided an update. Avoid, avoid, avoid!

The biggest issue was how limited the place felt: breakfast only ran from 8.30 to 10.00, with three egg options for the cooked meal, and there was nothing to eat or drink after 11.00am. Towels and linen were changed just once during our seven days. The rooms were very poor, especially room six, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone infirm. There’s no reception, and this is a guest house, not a hotel. Phillipe and Elena, the mother and son on staff, were excellent and very helpful, though their English was very limited and we used Google Translate. Nearby bars played loud music until 4.000am. Other guests we spoke to felt the same and said they wouldn’t return. We were very disappointed. It’s basically a beach-and-booze holiday, with no activities and only a few poor coach excursions. We’re seasoned travellers, and there are far better HOTELS out there.

We had to leave at 7am, after the power alarm went off at 3am and a large room light came on. I called, but there was no answer, and nobody was on the property to help. I also got no reply to my email, and there was no apology or accommodation for the inconvenience. I would have rated it 4.8 otherwise.

The location is a real plus, right in the old town with restaurants and bars an easy walk away, and breakfast was good. Getting there with a car was awkward. We couldn’t drive up to the hotel, and the nearest parking we found was a 10 minute walk away. There’s no reception either. Boking.com sent the front door and room codes by email on the day we arrived. Also, if you can’t carry your luggage up a narrow staircase, this probably isn’t the place for you.
