Hotel Santa Maria

We had a quiet room with a balcony for a few extra euros, plus free continental breakfast. It's a basic hotel in a nice spot opposite the monastery, with three good restaurants 50m away and easy access to nazere, soa martino do Porto and obidos. There's lots of parking in the secure car park, and underground parking at a price. The only downside was having no hot drink facilities in the room.

The view of the huge monastery from across the way is great, and the location is excellent. It's an old time hotel that still covers the basics, with renovated bathrooms and good beds. The TVs are terrible and very small. Breakfast was reasonable, but the coffee from both machines tasted quite bad.

We've stayed here three times, mainly because it's the most central property in Alcobaca. In general it's good, but rather dated. Some carpets need replacing, and rooms with balconies have no table or anything to sit on. We paid extra for a balcony and didn't think it was worth it. Our basic room actually had a better view of the monastery, more directly in front of it. Breakfast is a bit basic for a hotel of this size: cheap ham and cheese, scrambled eggs, bacon, bread, and cakes in plastic sleeves. The coffee was good. Free parking is in front.

The room was spotless and looked out over the monastery, an amazing view. Guests can use the hotel's private parking too. Excellent value.
