Terceira Mar Hotel

The island itself is stunning, and I’d highly recommend touring all of it. The hotel is clean and serves a substantial breakfast, with unmatched views. It’s about a 20-minute walk into downtown, which won’t suit everyone. We’d choose somewhere nearer Angra’s city center next time to enjoy more cafes and restaurants. Drinks cost more than at other places on the island, and the snack and dinner food was mediocre and overpriced for what you get. The staff were friendly, though not especially helpful. As we’ve found in much of Portugal, the beds were very uncomfortable.

The hotel has a great location, and the staff are very friendly. The rooms were clean and spacious. But two things really spoiled the stay. The sauna was very cold, around 60-65 by our estimate, with no thermometer or hygrometer inside. There were big cracks in the walls and cold air blowing through, and there was no way to raise the temperature. Breakfast was very poor, with a small selection at the open buffet. Some items cost extra, including an omelette for 4.5 euros. The indoor pool was under reconstruction for two months, October and November, but this wasn’t mentioned on Booking or Expedia when we made the reservation.

Good breakfast and an excellent location, though there are a few hassles. There’s no microwave anywhere in the hotel, and it would be useful to have one in the lobby for heating small items. The rooms don’t have irons either, so you have to ask for one from a shared area. They also don’t allow early check-in, even if rooms are already available and you arrive in the morning after a 16-20-hour international flight.

The location was just perfect, and the amenities were great, including a pool, indoor pool, and gym. The team made us feel welcome, the service was amazing, and the daily cleaning was done well. The rooms were clean and breakfast was great. Honestly, it was beautiful.
