After driving 500 km in awful weather, we arrived wet, with 3º C outside, on 7Feb26. There was no hot or even warm water for a shower, which is unacceptable in any hotel. I reported the barely tepid, almost cold water, but two hours later the problem still hadn’t been fixed. I was even told I was the only person reporting it. I proved otherwise by checking a room near reception, which had the same problem as the first floor. A full refund of the expenses plus compensation is clearly justified. The food and staff were okay, and they did what they could, but couldn’t fix what seems to be a known issue. I don’t know how long it’s been going on, and the hotel wasn’t even close to full.

The complimentary breakfast was surprisingly good quality and filling. Inside, the rooms are comfortable and well kept, with classy, minimalist interiors. The traditional architecture mixed with contemporary design gives the hotel an elegant, distinctive feel. Getting there means taking some winding roads, so drive carefully if you’re arriving at night. It’s a memorable place to stay.

It’s a great location, though the rooms feel quite old. The fires in the area have left a heartbreaking mess. Breakfast is very basic, and I didn’t like the service. The man at reception wouldn’t accept a Portuguese driving licence as ID, which seemed very unusual.

Piodao is beautiful, but check-in here was one of the most unfriendly and unwelcoming experiences I’ve ever had. I rarely leave bad reviews, but I wouldn’t stay here again.

It’s a decent, charming hotel for the price, with a nice pool and a short drive from Piódão. It’s also the only hotel this close to Piódão. Don’t expect a brand new modern five-star place, but I can recommend it for what it costs.
