That castle view is even more amazing from the castle itself, though the pool has a pretty great view too. I loved the quiet mornings, waking up early to hear birds and cows around the property.

The night sky was unbelievable, and the food was superb. Staff were so friendly too. Getting there is a bit of a surprise: you’re out in the middle of the Alentejo plain, with 10 km of unpaved road that had me wondering if I’d taken the right turn. Loved it.

The hosts were awesome and the food was great. It’s 3h from Lisbon, but the isolated setting is lovely for walking through the fields. We also took the electric car, with the farm dogs tagging along and winning our kid over even more. We’ll definitely go back.

Sunrise and sunset at herdade da coitadinha are something I’ll remember forever. We came across the place by chance while heading to visit the castle of Noudar, after 7kms on rough roads from Barrancos, and were blown away. Patricia, Nuno, and Fiuza were wonderful hosts, and the views are breathtaking. The walks to the river and water mills, through the dense azinheira, esteva, and giesta, felt unique. The main house is warmly decorated and well renovated. We didn’t use the large old kitchen, but I can’t wait to return and try it. The restaurant was an unexpected good surprise in such a remote place, with great food and service. Congratulations, Patricia and Nuno, on giving us such a wonderful experience!
