Dear General Manager of Pousada Convento Beja, My husband booked one Superior Room well ahead of time, on 17 October 2025, at 153€ per night. We checked in on 27 December 2025 and then looked at Booking.com prices for those dates. The rate for that room category was much lower. Comparing the photos on your website, it seemed we had actually been given a Standard Room, which cost about 75€ per night for the same dates. Room No. 214 had just one room, which is why I believe it was Standard rather than Superior. It also had none of the amenities I expected in a Superior Room: hair conditioner, body lotion, a kettle with coffee and tea, or any of the other usual amenities for that category. We paid 153€ for a room that didn’t match either the price or the category we booked. Breakfast wasn’t included. If we’d booked that same room one day before arrival, it would have cost 75€ plus 30€ for breakfast. My husband asked at reception to correct or change the reservation, but they refused. The hotel was extremely cold as well. At 7:00 a.m., I went to reception and found the corridor completely dark, with no lights or heating. I’ve never experienced a situation where paying in advance meant worse conditions at a much higher price. This was the worst hotel experience of my life. Please check the category of room No. 214, which appears to be Standard, not Superior, and review what happened. I’d like an explanation and appropriate compensation. Sincerely, Olga

The main issue for us was access: there’s no convenient handicap parking near the door for wheelchair users, and the ramp to the dining room is so steep it’s impossible to use without two people. It really needs to be reviewed. Otherwise, it’s a great base for seeing the beautiful countryside. The old convent is right in the town center, with spacious, comfortable rooms, very kind staff, a good breakfast and fabulous gaspacho.

This is a classy hotel in an impressive historic building from the 13th century. It has a big garden, a swimming pool and a classy restaurant, and it’s very well situated. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we appreciated the free secure parking and the very nice complimentary breakfast.

The rooms were comfortable, and the bathrooms had been upgraded. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the dining room felt peaceful, though dinner was a little expensive. The property has a unique feel, but it could use better care: there were cigarette ends and rubbish in the front courtyard, peeling wallpaper in parts of the dining room, and not enough good lighting around the place. It was still very calm and serene. Beja itself also seemed somewhat dirty, like it needed a wash.
