Hotel Comendador

I left very early, so I can’t say anything about breakfast. The room was very clean, everything worked properly, and there was nothing to fault. The woman at reception was extremely helpful and polite.

We stayed in Bombarral for three days and found it good value for money. Our double room was clean and spacious, with a view, and parking was available. There’s also a handy coffee shop in the hotel. The room was ready that morning, and they let us check in early and check out late at no extra cost. The reception staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel was very clean, but the TVs looked like they were from the 90s, and the phones didn’t work. I’m not sure why they were even there. Breakfast was terrible, with watery instant coffee from an urn, and the toiletries were cheap, like what you’d find in a low-rent motel. The manager made the stay very unpleasant. She came across as overbearing and seemed not to like us. She raised petty issues that I’d never encountered at any other hotel in the U.S. or Europe, and her tone felt like that of a resentful mother-in-law. She knew I was there because of my mother’s funeral, and the last thing I needed was someone splitting hairs over little things. I hope not to stay here again while she works there. I’ll still return to this village to see family, but I’ll book somewhere else.

The staff and food were OK. The hotel should put money into improving its cleaning, though the location is something they can’t change. The town’s wine festival is a local attraction. Apart from that, there’s nothing here.
