The view is stunning when the clouds clear, and there’s a lovely garden to retreat to when it gets hot. Rooms were clean and had everything we needed. The hostess is around each day and gave us good tips for local activities. A couple of small downsides: some stray cats seem to love the place too. They’re sweet, just a bit too bold. Also, the neighbor across the street drives a taxi and came home late a few times with lots of music.
We booked the whole venue for 10 people. It has six separate apartments and room for well over 14, with plenty of shared spots to sit and eat together. The pool is a good size too, easily fitting 6-7 people to swim or play. There’s a cozy, homely feel, and if I return to Madeira, I’d choose this over a hotel or somewhere else. The caretaker was friendly, polite, and happy to suggest good local shops and attractions. The mountain road can feel scary for a first-time driver, with steep elevation and sharp turns, though it’s well maintained. The view at the end is worth the climb.

It’s a nice place to stay, but a bit far out. You’ll need a car.
The rooms are arranged beautifully around a pool, with gorgeous views, and it’s a nice spot to meet other hikers. There’s a kitchenette and a shared washing machine. Bring the right coffee pods, sugar, milk, shower gel, and washing powder, or you may have to make an unnecessary trip down the steep hill to the supermarket.
