The reception team were lovely and helpful, and having a few spaces set aside for guests was handy. Our room had a little kitchen area where we could make snacks, and the place had that feel of a small family-run hotel. The main drawback for me was the Wi-Fi, which wasn’t steady enough if you need to work online. I’d also request a room on a higher floor for a better view.

We liked how roomy the place was, especially the bathroom, and everything felt clean and fresh. The kitchen corner came with plenty of utensils and cookware, so we could make lovely breakfasts from local produce. We’d happily recommend staying here.

The staff at reception were consistently friendly and helpful. I arrived after 9 pm, but ordering a meal from the Vila Ventura Restaurant in advance was easy, and I really appreciated that. Tours can also be booked there. I spent a week here on a package holiday without breakfast. The room was spotless and well looked after, though the decor is a little dated. My kitchenette had the basics, including a hob, dishes, pans, mugs, a small fridge with freezer compartment and a microwave. There wasn’t a kettle. I was in Studio 6, right beside the reception entrance, so there was some extra noise, although it hardly bothered me. Cleaning was done daily. The mattresses were fine, on the soft side, and most of the TV channels were German. There’s no air conditioning. I hadn’t noticed that when booking, so I’m not holding it against Vila Ventura. With the windows open I got a few mosquitoes and more noise, and bought an electric citronella plug. The hotel is down a cul-de-sac, but a nearby gym brings people coming and going, along with the usual arrivals and pickups for other hotels. There are only around five guest parking spaces, so finding one can be difficult; paid parking is further up the road. A small promenade, pebble beach and lido are walkable, as are three supermarkets and several restaurants. The supermarkets were pricey, so since I had a car I shopped at Pingo and Contentido. I can definitely recommend SnackBar Mare and AGosto.

The restaurant is well worth a visit, even if you’re not staying at the hotel. It’s really good. We had a lovely time here too: a clean room, nice breakfast and reception staff who were exceptionally helpful. The people were so kind, and I’m still wondering why this place didn’t get four stars :).

We paid 38€ a night for a double room in October 22. The balcony had its own little garden and a sea view, and the kitchen was fully equipped. Staff were friendly and lent us a kettle and hairdryer when we asked. It’s between the airport and Funchal. Parking got busy at night, but we always managed to find somewhere for the car.
