Quinta da Mata

We loved how dog friendly it was, and the room was gorgeous and really comfortable. In the evenings we sat on the terrace with drinks from the outdoor bar, watching the sun go down over Chaves and the hills. It was a beautiful, relaxed stay, perfect for us. We’ll come back and recommend it to everyone. Next time, we’ll plan to have dinner too.

We came here for a wedding ceremony and reception. The food was tasty and there was plenty of it, and the service was excellent. The guesthouse looks modern from outside, while the interior keeps much of its history, including visits from several Portuguese Presidents. There are lovely views of the surrounding hills, too.

Just outside town, this bed and breakfast has incredible valley views. It’s also an active farm, with some of the most authentic food and wine you can experience. 10/10.

Quinta de Mata is a Portuguese gem. The host is thoughtful about what you need and helpful without being intrusive, and knows the area well enough to answer just about any question. The information they shared made a real difference in helping my husband and me appreciate Chaves and the surroundings. The whole staff was caring and capable, and the service was excellent.
