I’m writing this to keep other Erasmus students from spoiling their experience by staying here. The one good thing was meeting the lovely Erasmus students who lived there. If something major goes wrong, be ready to spend hours trying to reach the landlord or staff, sometimes with no reply until the next day or at all, so you end up messaging over and over. I found bed bugs in my room. The house is old, with wooden floors, and I didn’t know what to do, so I contacted them. They were slow to respond. This place is part hotel and part rented rooms, but there’s no one at reception. When they finally replied, they didn’t explain what would happen or even tell me when someone would come to spray the room. They entered while I was away without telling me, and said that was perfectly normal. The next day I found even more insects. From what I read, pests hiding during treatment can come out afterward, but when I brought it up, they mockingly said insects are normal in Portugal and told me to clean. Another month I saw a mouse in the kitchen, and they didn’t take that seriously either. Every month, something else happened to upset me, and I kept finding new kinds of insects in my room. Pick this place if you’re interested in insects :) I chose the house at the start of the semester because I was worried I wouldn’t find anywhere else. But Coimbra has lots of houses, including cheaper ones with better amenities. Don’t worry about finding another place.

The price felt like a good deal, and the service was very good. Whenever I asked for something, the hotel staff brought it. I stayed for two weeks during summer school in Coimbra and gave it four stars. The location wasn’t too bad, though there were plenty of hills up and down, as you’d expect in Portugal :) There was a common room, kitchen, laundry, a balcony for drying clothes, shared bathroom and shower room, and a sink in the room.

I couldn’t get my deposit back. Don’t go unless you want to be scammed.

Our room was small and had no TV, but it was comfortable and had a great view. It also had a private bathroom with a great shower. The house is old, though the rooms are tidy and comfortable. A good place to stay when visiting Coimbra, not far from the center.

I spent three nights here, and for a couple of days this student dorm-style hostel with no reception was good, with a few caveats. My room was basic, with a squeaky bed, sink, desk, and open closet, but it was quiet and very warm with the heater. There were three basic shared showers and three toilets. The water went cold once and never got hot again. There’s no restaurant or supermarket nearby, and nothing to buy at the property. The vending machine was completely empty. A bus stop is a five-minute walk away, and Uber isn’t expensive. I didn’t see anyone from management, but that was fine. Toilet paper was provided, and there was nothing in the toilets. I forgot mine in one, but they gave me another.
