Zero Box Lodge Coimbra

Breakfast was great, with pancakes, hard-boiled eggs, pan con tomate, and a fun, nicely decorated space to eat in. The hotel entrance is lovely too, with illustrated carpets and cool lighting. It’s just a five-minute walk to one of Coimbra’s main streets, and the staff gave us a warm welcome, two cold beers, and helpful tips for a short visit. The room was small but functional, hip, and well designed, with a bigger bathroom than I expected. The air conditioning worked well, the bed was good, and I liked the lights under it. The city feels beautiful and a little magical, and this was a great place for a short stay. I knew beforehand that the box room had no windows, but I do prefer having fresh air in my room.

The lockers are very handy, since you can use them before check-in and after checkout. Staff were friendly, and they even greeted me with a non-Portuguese beer, Carlsberg, which was a nice touch. My only gripe was having no self check-in, even as an Airbnb guest, which isn’t great if you arrive late. That’s why I took off one star. Nothing fancy, but it’s a comfortable, cozy, dark place to sleep well. There’s no natural light, which might matter to some people; I didn’t mind, since darkness and a cool temperature help me sleep. Great spot and location otherwise.

It’s right by the river and a great location for the town centre. The staff are friendly, breakfast is really good, and there’s a nice bar and restaurant upstairs. The shower was very good, too. But the rooms feel too claustrophobic for me.

The room was quiet and dark, and the air conditioning worked really well, so I slept great. It had everything I needed, and the location made it easy to get around the whole city. The staff were amazing, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Francisca was especially awesome, one of the coolest people I met on my whole trip. She taught me a lot while I was there and gave me great recommendations.
