Patricia and John (Patricia e João) were kind, sociable, and diligent about taking care of us. When I discovered the oven wasn't working one evening while making ribs, I called the host and a new one was installed within an hour. This was a five-star stay for us. We spent 12 days there this summer, and it was a perfect home away from home for our family of three. We had two local family members over every day, and one of us used a wheelchair. The home was accessible indoors and out. From the kitchen sink, we had a magnificent view of Pico mountain. The kitchen had a washing machine and all the basics for everyday cooking. As a foodie family, I brought some extra kitchen tools of my own. Along with a cooktop, oven, and full fridge-freezer, there was an outdoor wood-burning grill and patio table. It was a short drive to pick up daily groceries, fresh meat, fish, and vegetables, and I cooked for my family and guests every day.

The place makes a good first impression, with AC that cools every room and a fully equipped kitchen. Wi-Fi worked well. But the sofa was awful to sit on and the beds weren't comfortable. Our neighbors were very noisy, which bothered us a lot. We saw no one apart from a brief three-minute encounter when we arrived.

Set among UNESCO-listed vineyards, the villas are beautiful, and some have sublime views of Mount Pico. Joao, the owner, was very helpful.

Everything is meticulously maintained, and the owners are kind and helpful. The place sits among the vineyards and Cory's Shearwater nesting grounds, with direct views of the volcano. In August, you can hear the birds' unmistakable call at night as they return to their nests. Magnificent.
