Elvas the Queen Residence

A great choice in Elvas, and incredible value. The owners were reachable by phone, text or email if we had questions, and a woman came in the morning to clean and check on the property. She was great. The property, room and staff were all very nice, and it had been renovated beautifully. I’d definitely stay again and highly recommend it.

I’d say this is only a place to sleep. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, but the setup is more like a co-working space than a hotel or hostel, and it feels like a work in progress rather than somewhere to enjoy. There’s no real reception, just one there in name. Finding it after navigating the narrow one-way streets was a nightmare. I eventually got there with help from a local, then had to call someone, who arrived five minutes later. I also had to call again when leaving to hand over the keys. If you’re driving into Elvas, I wouldn’t stay here. The city is very unfriendly for cars.

The staff were lovely and made us feel at home. For 35€ 😳😅, it was a huge, very positive surprise. The rooms were lovely, everything was new, clean and nicely decorated, and I knew as soon as I lay on the bed that the mattress was good. I slept like I was in heaven, like at a 5 star hotel. The bathrooms were ultra clean and smelled nice too. I’ve travelled a lot and stayed in plenty of hotels and hostels, but Elvas Queen residence really surprised me. Well done, I’ll be back soon.

We’re cycling in Portugal and ended up in Elvas after finding there wasn’t good camping there. So glad we did. Elvas the Queen is a beautiful guesthouse, and the kind owners went out of their way to help us. One of the nicest places we stayed in Portugal. What a gem, highly recommended. Thanks for a great stay!
