We really enjoyed the hotel, its grounds, and our suite. It felt like a special find, with several green, sustainable initiatives helping run the place. After a long flight, the quiet rural setting was just what we needed, while still being close enough to enjoy Elvas.

The setting and atmosphere are so lovely, with beautiful surroundings and rooms. I really enjoyed the place. The owner seemed a little tired or perhaps not very easygoing, though, sorry.

The bed, pillows, and linens were comfortable, and late check-in was possible. The rural setting was nice too, if you could actually sleep. Around 1 a.m. a dog nearby began barking nonstop and never let up. We didn't sleep at all, so we skipped the included breakfast, checked out early, and got on the road. We'd been excited by the great Google reviews, but the stay quickly turned into a nightmare.

The garden and orchard are lovely, and there's a big pool. We slept really comfortably, and breakfast was fresh and very nice. The restaurant served good food, all home-cooked. It's a splendid, well-run hotel.

Finding a rare book in a used bookstore always makes me smile. Serendipity, I suppose.
