The breakfast was poor, and there was never anyone at reception. The TV was tiny and didn't work, while the fridge was unplugged and useless. The shower holder was broken, and there were no amenities. Water escaped past the glass screen whenever I bathed and pooled on the floor. The place is run down, and the AC is from 1993 and can't heat even a small room properly.

After a long journey, we arrived late, but they still found us a room. It was clean and tidy, and the service was great.

The lady manageress was helpful and apologetic, but only after my wife pushed the grumpy manager to deal with the problems. Our room smelled stale, with flying ants coming through gaps around the window. The bathroom reeked of sewage, perhaps because the U-bends had dried out from lack of use. For the quality, it was overpriced and needs a complete revamp. We wouldn't stay again.

The room was comfortable and clean, and the place was well kept. It has a time-worn feel, and the red carpet in the corridors could go. Away from the city center, it was a pleasant surprise, with a decent restaurant that has outdoor seating, plus a pool and pub.

There was no hot water in the morning, and breakfast was a letdown. The place was deserted, which should have been a warning. It calls itself four star, but felt closer to two, with tired facilities and a price far too high for what was advertised. Our first hotel in Portugal was a bad experience, and we won't return.
